Due to the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, most if not all A-10Cs were transfered to the 107th Fighter Squadron, 127th Wing (Michigan ANG), at Selfridge ANGB. Currently, the 172nd Fighter Squadron is still in process to convert to the 172nd Airlift Squadron, flying C-21As - the military version of the Lear Jet 35A business jet.

706th Fighter Squadron 'Cajuns'

The squadron was inactivated in 2006 as a result of BRAC 2005. That same year it moved to Nellis AFB, Nevada, where it was re-designated the 706th Fighter Squadron. Their current mission is to oversee Air Force Reserve Command members assigned to the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, supporting missions in its 57th Wing, 53rd Wing and 505th Command and Control Wing. Pilots assigned to the 706th FS fly F-16, F-15C, F-15E and A-10 aircraft.
